Best Artisan business award 2017

We are very proud to say that we have been nominated for the North Notts best artisan business awards. Every vote means so much to our small business so please vote for us here.

This console table is made out of oak and beech. the curved underframe is created using a process called steam bending. The beech is exposed to steam un till it becomes bendy then clamped into a jig and allowed to dry out. Once dried, the wood holds the shape.

As with all of our  furniture, we can produce this in a range of materials and wood types but beech lends itself well to being steam bent.

welland table

This is a really innovative space saver. The table was designed to neatly fits into an alcove in a house but extend into an 8 seater dining table when opened and also store four folding chairs inside the table.

It is made out of cherry with a maple inlay detail across the tops and also the folding chairs.

Brackenbridge chair

Our client really liked a couple of the designs on our website and asked us to combine them to make the perfect chair for him.

Made out of solid ash, the seat is shaped and the back is curved for extra comfort. The beautiful curved legs link the chair nicely with existing furniture in the room.

Black work embroidery display table

Its always nice to be asked to design and make a piece of furniture that displays a treasured heirloom and this was an exceptionally nice piece of Spanish 'black-work' embroidery which we transformed into a coffee table.

The simple design allows the intricate stitching to really stand out.

Armar chair

What started as an experiment with curves and lines, the Amar chair is a really lovely design which gives a nod to the ercol style while also showing influences from the Windsor chair design.

Fitted mud room

We were asked to design some fitted storage for a reception room in Nottinghamshire.

The client liked the idea of having a mud room, somewhere to hang coats, store boots, hats, gloves etc so we designed this large fitted piece which maximises storge and also hides three fuse, gas and electrical hubs. we used oak for the main part of
the cabinet and contrasted this by using fumed oak for the seat.

RHS Wisley summer exhibition

It’s been a busy start to 2017 here in the workshop and we have been keeping ourselves warm working on some really interesting commissions. We’ve worked on a beautiful bed with built-in storage for a client in North London, a fitted ‘mud-room’ for a customer in Nottinghamshire and are just putting the finishing touches to a really special sideboard due to head to Wimbledon.

We are delighted to be heading back to RHS Wisley again this year, and will be exhibiting at the Craft In Focus Spring show in the gardens from the 27th April to the 1st May. We will be bringing along some excellent new pieces that we have not shown before as well as our ever-popular Convertable, Lapp and guitar stands.

As well as ourselves there is a vast array of very talented craft makers, artists and designers offering silver, glass, artwork and textiles, all hand made in the UK.

If you want to talk to us about a piece of furniture for your home or workplace please stop by and see us and we will be happy to discuss your ideas.

McCarthy sideboard

It’s always a delightful task to start a new project and with a fairly open brief the enjoyment becomes exponential.

We were approached by a new client during the Christmas show at RHS Wisley and asked to visit their home to see a space they had earmarked for something to match with their existing antique French walnut dining table and dresser.

We spent a while at the drawing board to design a range of options based on the brief and after a couple of rounds of feedback between ourselves and the client the final design was settled on.

The design takes it’s cue from Neoclassical furniture and great British makers like George Hepplewhite. The delicate tapered feet flow into the elegant contours of the underframe. These curves are magnified in the sweeping inlaid burr walnut panels that form the inset handles of the doors and drawers. Generously proportioned dovetailed drawers on hidden soft-close runners at the top blend with the layered doors below. Cupboard space with adjustable shelving makes the sideboard functional and versatile.

Woodford bed

A regular client of ours commissioned us to make this King size bed frame with headboard and under storage made from ash to match the rest of the furniture in the room.

One of their specifications was that there should be a tray at the top of the headboard to store remotes so we made this into a feature. All six of the drawers are on soft close runners.
